Established in 1995, Remedy Entertainment Plc is one of Finland’s oldest and most successful game companies. Its best-known titles include Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break. About half of the company’s employees are foreign and, by the end of 2019, they represented gaming industry professionals from 26 different countries. Remedy turned to Delingua as they wanted to offer their foreign employees the opportunity to learn Finnish.
The working language at Remedy is English, but many of the company’s international recruits want to learn the basics of Finnish. According to the employees, going to a supermarket and finding the right products is particularly difficult. Remedy wants to help its international employees settle in by providing them with the opportunity to learn the Finnish language, for example. “We offer this opportunity to our employees as well as their spouses,” says Mikaela Öberg-Mattila, HR Director at Remedy Entertainment Plc.
Rather than focusing on work-related language, Remedy’s Finnish language classes focus on everyday situations to help foreign employees settle more quickly in Finland. Knowing the culture helps you enjoy everyday life in Finland, and the Finnish language is an essential part of the culture. “We also provide other services to our foreign employees to help them get acquainted with Finland and its culture and to enjoy working and living here in general,” Öberg-Mattila adds.
